Lies My Teacher told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen
It's been a while since i read this book and i am now going to review it again. Wanted to know if anyone read this book and what are your thoughts. If you have not read this book maybe you want to and we can build on it.

I read this book a few years ago and thought it was excellent. My only criticism was the chapter dealing with Lincoln. Loewen argues that the Civil War was not primarily fought to save the Union, but rather to end the institution of slavery. While this is true with regard to many of the dedicated abolitionists (like John Brown, also discussed in the same chapter), Lincoln stated outright that he would save the Union if it didn't require the freeing of any slaves (Loewen, to his credit, notes this but argues that this quote was taken out of context). Lerone Bennett's book called "Forced Into Glory: Abraham Lincoln's White Dream" paints a very different picture of Lincoln than James Loewen does. Besides this point, though, I thought "Lies My Teacher Told Me" was a great read and would recommend it.
